Hunger Team Mission: Luke 4:18-19

  • provide leadership within the Presbytery in interpreting the Presbyterian Hunger Program (PHP)
  • interpret and promote local, national and international efforts to alleviate hunger;
  • maintain liaison with Hunger Reporters (formerly Hunger Contact Persons) in local congregations and provide leadership training and resources for these congregations;
    encourage the cluster concept;
  • work ecumenically in public policy advocacy addressing the needs of hunger and homelessness;
  • assist in the review of proposals for funds requested from the PHP;
  • promote increased giving to the special offering and hunger causes;
  • encourage individuals and congregations to move toward lifestyles consistent with Christian discipleship Click here for Mission Survey.

The Presbyterian Coffee Project is a new way to help people in need while enjoying fellowship and an excellent cup of coffee. Hunger Program serves up ‘Just Eating’ curriculum Seven-week program examines links between faith and food. Just Eating’ Practicing Our Faith at the Table Participants Book is a seven-session curriculum for congregations that explores the relationship between the way we eat and the way we live, published by the Presbyterian Hunger Program. The study uses scripture, prayer and stories from the local and global community to explore five key aspects of our relationship with food.

**Please encourage your congregation to learn where some of the 36% of funds donated  in 2008 via the Presbyterian Hunger Program came to benefit many within National Capital Presbytery, the Synod of the Mid-Atlantic or nearby by going  to

As a brief sample: $44,000.00 helped  support 9 Hunger Actions Enablers (HAE) within our Synod, including $5,000 for our HAE, Sandy Champion (schampion@rcn.com or 301-602-1620 ) or $15,000 to STITCH for Outreach and Education in the U.S.  To Fight Poverty, DC.
