Purpose:
The Director of Youth Ministry will be responsible for the education and spiritual development of the children of the church from third grade through middle school. The youth program will encourage personal faith in Christ, knowledge of the Christian faith and its history, and an outward expression of service and mission.
Qualifications:
The Director of Youth Ministry (DYM) must have a mature understanding of his/her own Christian faith, be able to articulate a clear vision for youth ministry and have the desire to work with students, parents, volunteers and the pastor. DYM must be able to communicate well and relate to children of all ages. DYM must have enthusiasm for the task of education and a love for his/her students. A musical background and the ability to play musical instruments is a plus.
Responsibilities and Major Duties:
The Director of Youth Ministry will create and implement a comprehensive learning program that will foster the spiritual development of the children in the church during the Sunday morning portion of the worship service.
The Director of Youth Ministry will develop seasonal programs and events such as the Christmas pageant, the Easter Egg Hunt, Youth Sunday and other religious and fellowship times.
Additionally the Director of Youth Ministry will plan mission trips to local ministries to foster the understanding of the churches work in the larger world.
Working Expectations:
The Director of Youth Ministry is a part-time position with the expectation of 4 to 6 hours per week. It is expected that this position will require regular Sunday morning and some other evening participation in youth programs and other church events.
Accountability and Review:
The Director of Youth Ministry is expected to maintain high standards of personal integrity and live in a manner that expresses the faith that he/she is teaching. DYM will meet with the pastor and the Children’s Education Committee on a monthly basis.
Compensation:
The position of DYM will run from the last Sunday in August to the third Sunday in June. Compensation is at $25/hour and is expected to average five hours per week of preparation, participation and teaching and will be paid on a monthly basis. Education materials and other expenses will be paid through the Education Budget.
