Carla Gorrell, Associate General Presbyter
I am one of those people who actually enjoy Presbytery meetings. It started 25 years ago when, as a lay person, I volunteered to serve on a committee here in this Presbytery. Now, I do Presbytery work full time and get paid to do it. In between, I became a candidate under care and was ordained here. I have served in specialized community ministry and as a pastor here. You could say that everything I learned about the church, I learned here in National Capital.
I love this Presbytery’s diversity and am well acquainted with its people, its history, and its culture. That doesn’t mean I have learned all there is to know about ministry in the Presbytery. In my work with mission, church development and immigrant congregations I keep finding that there is much more to learn.
God is always on the move – recreating the world around us; rearranging our lives; sending us where we never thought we would go. I try to keep my eyes open to the amazing, unexpected ways that God is working in the world through us. As the community of faith struggles to be faithful in the midst of all this change, our response to Christ’s saving love remains the same. We gather the folks; tell the stories; break the bread; and act as the people of the Story.
